New Phone

I just got a new cell phone. I went all out and got a Motorola E815, it’s got Bluetooth and it can do digital fast enough to stream video.

Here’s what I want. I want my laptop to be able to bluetooth over to the phone and then phone over to the internet. Has anybody tried this? This is the sort of thing old ladies are probably doing in Japan so I thought I’d ask. I can also assume that Motorola probably turned that off in the American version to avoid scaring/confusing me.

Here’s another thing I want. If I walk near my computer with my phone on, I want the computer and the phone and sync my address book, schedule, grocery list and whatever. I also want it to upload any new pictures. And I want that to just happen without me doing anything.

If I’m in the kitchen (which should be within range) and I get an email, I want the phone to give me a chirp followed by sender and subject on the screen.

All the tools are here.

I’m pretty sure that the features you describe, while both possible and implemented elsewhere, are disabled (or ‘crippled’ in the popular parlence) on Verizon’s phones and network.

    I believe there are hacks.

Jon, are you still looking for a new screen for your phone?

Tom, did this new phone come with a new number?

You have an old screen that still works? How hard does the substitution look?

Am I going to end up buying a crippled Bluetooth phone too?

It’ll be pretty easy. It’s all yours.
