iPod Video

Woah, new iPod Video. I’ve been waiting for the announcement all week, and I use apple.com/startpage as my homepage, but I still didn’t notice right away. It looks just like the old iPod.

BBC radio is hating on it. They keep saying the screen is too small, and they say it like they’re describing a misshapen baby. Who cares? It’s still an iPod. No one is going to make you watch TV on it. If you want you can just keep it in your pocket, get your Franz Ferdinand play count up in the triple digits, broadcast your status through the white earbud cables, and pretend like it is all making your ride on the T so much more satisfying than mine because that’s the point of iPods. One Brit was saying that they should have waited until they had a screen that could unfold, but I don’t think Steve Jobs would be happy if his favorite toy shared the same user interface as a newspaper.

You can now buy ABC tv shows on the iTunes music store for 2 bucks, or the whole season for slightly less than Amazon. Is anyone going to buy them? I doubt it. I’m almost never on the T long enough to get through a TV episode.

My big question, and no one else seems to be either asking or answering it, is can I put my own videos on it? Then you might be talking. I’d put MIT’s Open Courseware lectures on my iPod video.

I still probably wouldn’t ever watch them, though.

There is one ridiculous thing, though. $2 for a music video? Jesus. The song should cost less if you have to take the music video too.
